Soul tied..

Soul tied...
A short story by Onuzulike Somtochukwu

She wiped off the few salty drops that fell across her face down to her lips as the movie ended, it had shown her that indeed there was a better life than the one she had, a life she could have if she wanted..in that moment she resolved to find it and make it hers.

Just behind that row a young man observed.. . he was touched as she let out unguarded emotions, oblivious of the fact that he has been watching her for a long long time, there was something vaguely familiar about  her..he was sure he had never met her but oddly he felt like he knew her…. He understood loneliness, he knew it too well… he kept eating his roasted nuts as he watched her, every single move she made, he watched her look around nervously hoping no one had seen her cry, he watched her stand and straighten her floral print dress as she made her way out…she was interesting to him, he didn’t know why…… a small lonely creature just like him. The lights came on rousing him from his reverie, he poured the last of his roasted nuts down his throat and walked out.

One thing he hated about this mall, it was where everybody in town went to, you want to eat a nice but ‘friendly to the pocket’ meal you go to the city mall, you want to see the latest blockbuster movie, you go to the only cinema in town inside the city mall, you want stylish new  furniture for your new apartment.. the showroom is in the city mall!  Everything everyone did revolved around that mall..and he hated that, you never go there without seeing someone you know, someone who knows you, or who claims they do, sometimes it gets crazy you could end up seeing your ex lovers together! he pulled his baseball hat on and walked as fast as he could.. avoiding greetings,  just as he walked out the main entrance he realized it was raining.. Heavily too!  he stepped into the rain as big fat drops of rain descended freely on him, he made for his car walking lazily as if he wasn’t being drenched, his shirt stuck to his body… he felt the rain seep into his jeans… gather around his balls then drip down to his thighs… finally something he loved… he loved rain! He loved the metallic aftertaste of water from the sky same way he loved the taste of cold beer in a hot afternoon.. he loved how  cold and calm everywhere usually was after a heavy down pour. To him rain was a gift from nature to calm down the disorganized human life. He finally got to his car and drove out of the parking lot, his headlights caught something, a familiar figure walking slowly in the rain….  he wiped his fogged windshield to get a clearer view , the floral print!.. the girl from the cinema!!.. he drove up to her and came down from the car regardless of the rain… light brown eyes almost glassy stared at him.. wet dark mussed hair curved around the most beautiful face he had ever seen
They didn’t talk, needn’t talk for they understood themselves just by staring into each other’s eyes.

  1. Nice one but full of western innuendos.. It can pass as one of the excerpts from such like mills and boons publication.. Still good #Ade
